Hello!!  My name is Tabitha Lucas, and I was born and raised in Pellville and attended South Hancock Elementary as a child.  The South Hancock community is near and dear to my heart, and I was so excited and grateful for the opportunity to come back to my roots in 2011 and give back to the school that made such a positive impact on my life. Over the last decade I have been blessed to teach kindergarten, second grade, third/fourth grade splits, and fifth grade is where I have spent most of my time.

I am currently the Gap Coordinator for our school which is brand new position in our school this year. In a nutshell, I will be looking at and monitoring assessment data to help teachers identify students who may need intervention or who may need a challenge to keep them growing in their learning journey at South. I will also help teachers find resources, strategies, or ideas to help them provide intervention or enrichment within their own classrooms. But my absolute favorite part will be working with the kids!! My passion is mathematics, so I will also be providing math intervention and enrichment to various K-5 students throughout the year. Students can expect to see me in their classrooms frequently, and also some of them may be pulled to work with me in my little corner of the school!! :)

On a personal note, I am married to Brandon Lucas, and we live in Owensboro with our three children, Asher (8 years old), Selma (5 years old), and Nadia (1 year old).  My one personal hobby that I faithfully do and make time for each day is jogging!!  In this season of my life, most of my free time is spent taking care of day-to-day tasks at home (is there ever a time when there are no dirty dishes or laundry to do??) and taking care of my kids and their activities.  Currently, Asher plays soccer and baseball, Selma is involved in gymnastics, and Nadia is an active toddler and getting more and more that way each day.  :)  We stay busy with them and whatever they are doing at the moment, and I would not have it any other way!!

I look forward to serving the students and families at South this year as I do every year!!  I love our school and all our Shining Stars.  Any of my recent students in the last few years would tell you one of my favorite things to say is, ¨We want to grow, not plateau!¨  I look forward to growing and learning together with everyone this year!!
